Keeping Hands around Goalpost
Aim of this drill: In order to make sure receivers
catching ball, they should catch the ball with hands extended with help of
fingers to catch
Requirements: 3 balls and 1 post
Setting ups for drills: By being about 10 yards away
from coach and facing him, receiver should stand up against goalpost.
Execution of drill: By keeping arms extended,
receiver should catch the ball by his fingers. The goalpost must make sure that
receiver doesn’t catch the ball against him.
Method used in drill: By keeping arms extended,
receiver should catch the ball by his fingers, same as in the execution. He can
then maintain the tuck position.
Simple mistakes during drill:
• Despite
of catching balls with hands, receivers might catch it with their body.

Receivers do not take the time to tuck the ball away.
Calls to be made:
• “Eyes
on the ball!”
• “Elbows
flexed!”

“Catch with fingers!”
• “Big
hands!”
• “Soft
hands!”
• “Look

it!”
Drills- Warm ups catching
Aim for drill: In order to make fundamental
passes, receivers are kept relaxed and concentrated for catches. This drill is
essential as a warm-up drills before matches and it doesn’t require much of
running.
Requirements: 2 balls
Setting ups for drill: Receivers should be lined up
straight. At the first, coach stands 10 yrds. Infront and perpendicular to
receivers.
Execution:
• across—All receivers should practice receiving the ball in the yard in a
line and the after each reps are carried out, they come back in positions.
• hip(rear)—This drill is same as the previous drill, but the only difference is that
coaches give the ball on the hip of receivers. After each reps are carried out,
they come back in positions.
• Low
ball—This drill is similar to previous one. In this drill, ball in low height
are caught or scooped. after each reps are carried out, they come back in
positions.
• High
ball—. This drill is similar to previous one. In this drill, ball in height is
caught by stretching up high.
